My Friends Fredrik Backman

Reviewer: Anonymous

It's a story looking back at four teenage friends -- characters who only really fit with each other and the different paths their lives took. It's also about the transformative power of art. The audio version is great -- very well read!

The Serpent and the Wolf

Book #1 of the Dark Inheritance Trilogy

Author: Rebecca Robinson

Read on Libby

Reviewer: Chelsea

I really enjoyed this debut novel, it's not super well known yet but I think it will start catching some more attention as the author gets more well known.

It features a Princess who starts her arranged marriage off by tying up and threatening her new husband before jumping out the window and running away.

It has political intrigue, some pretty good banter, and an interesting magic system.

Likes: Characters change and grow and learn, the magic system is interesting, the writing is in third person which is a nice change of pace.

Dislikes: The beginning of the book starts off rather slow after the initial threatening and jumping out of the window. It does pick up but it makes you work for it a bit.

Spice level: 3.5/5  - There is some spice but it's not too overt and it's not really the main focus of the story.

Rating: 4.25/5

Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Enemies to Lovers, Witches, Arranged Marriage.

Dead Silence

 by S.A. Barnes

Available in our system

Reviewer: Chelsea

This book was creepy and exactly the vibe I was looking for in a ghost ship story.  Set in the future and featuring a crew of deep space maintenance workers who are about to finish their 20+ month stint, the heroine and her crew hear a distress call on an old communications channel and decide to check it out.

What they find? A luxury space ship that's been missing for decades, and a whole lot of creepy nope.

Likes: The characters (who made reasonable choices for the most part), some twists were predictable but not in a bad way and some predictions ended up being totally wrong.

Dislikes: There's a lot of violence and almost jump scares in this book, so if creepy is not your vibe I'd recommend skipping this one.

Spice: 2/5 There's really not much for spice in this book. Though there is a bit of romance.

Rating: 4.5/5

Genres: Horror, Science Fiction, Mystery, Thriller, Space.

The Deal

by Elle Kennedy

Book #1 Off-Campus series

Amazon Prime TV show coming May 2026

(Read on Libby)

Reviewer: Chelsea

 Need something lighthearted and fun?

A little cheesy? A little spicy?

This book delivered on all of that. It's like a guilty pleasure pizza type book.

The characters were fun, the drama was (fairly) believable, the spicy scenes were well written.

Altogether it's a very satisfying read and I've found that the books in the series are just getting better and better.

Likes: the cheesy factor (I am from a Wisconsin dairy farm after all haha the cheese is a draw for me).

Dislikes: Nothing really. It delivers exactly what you would expect a cute rom com college life book to deliver.

Rating: 4.25/5

Genres: Romance, Rom Com, Sports Romance, College, Hockey, East Coast, Contemporary Romance

Silver Elite Dani Francis

Silver Elite Book #1 (second book releasing 2026)

Read on Palace Project and available in in our system.

Reviewer: Chelsea

This book feels a bit like the love child between Fourth Wing and Powerless, and I am here for it.

It takes place in the US in the far future, where war has changed the landscape and humans are split into two groups - Primes (non modified humans) and silverbloods (the nicer term, aka modified humans). Modified humans have a handful of abilities ranging from Telepathy to PreCognition. Each of them, basically a death sentence.

Our main character, Wren, has four abilities and has been raised on the outskirts of society in hiding. Until one mistake changes her whole world.

Likes: the characters, the setting, the story in general.

Dislikes: Most of the "twists" are fairly obvious, but it wasn't so much a "what?!" as a "oh that's how they got there" which I don't mind.

GoodReads Reviews on Books Available in our library

Two Books in One

Tom - Reader of Books  :

Rarely are Cross and Sampson separated for long, but when circumstances force them onto different paths, the result is one of the most engaging entries in the series. While Sampson grapples with a wave of crime across the city, Cross is driven by something far more personal: the desperate search for his missing son.

This deviation from the usual formula works surprisingly well. Both strands are rich with tension and emotional weight, yet neither sacrifices character for spectacle. The dual narratives allow Cross and Sampson’s personalities to shine independently, reminding readers why their partnership works so effectively when reunited. The supporting cast is also given greater prominence, strengthening the ensemble dynamic and adding welcome depth to the familiar world.

This is classic Patterson territory. It’s accessible, fast-paced, and effortlessly readable. It may not challenge the intellect in profound ways, but that’s hardly the point. It delivers exactly what it promises: gripping entertainment from start to finish.

And as for Cross himself, one can’t help but wish his television counterpart carried quite this much presence and complexity

A Poignant Historical Journey

   Lewis Weinstein    :

If you don't cry when you read this book, I guess I feel sorry for you. From the stunning prologue to the very last page, this is a remarkable read.

The first few pages of the prologue reveal that a man and a woman, married and then separated for 60 years by the Nazi invasion of Prague, and both thinking the other dead, meet at the wedding reception of the grandson of one and the granddaughter of the other.

Now you might think that revealing this much in the very beginning of the book would reduce the emotional content of what follows. Not in the least. Knowing they will eventually meet makes each aspect of their separate stories even more poignant. At least to a romantic like me.

Still fresh - even after 60+ books

 Miriam Kahn   :

Hold onto your hats, Dallas and Roarke are on the hunt for a murderer and thief.
In this thrilling installment (#62), readers learn a little more about Roarke as a teen as Dallas and Roarke dig into clues left by thief and killer.

It's a brain teaser as you pay attention to the smallest clues. The suspects are numerous and the solution is wonderfully surprising.

This might not be the best book to jump into the series, then again, you'll also want to read all the previous books.

Fans are excited the next book is out in the fall.

Small Town Mystery Meets Found Family

  Poppy Sabrina  :

  4.5⭐️

I LOVED this!!! It takes a lot for me to love a small town romance, but this was the perfect balance of small town/mystery/found family

Laney has to be relocated the the Foxx Brothers family home/estate (where they have a very successful brand of bourbon and distilleries) under witness protection, the Foxx family feel like they’re cursed as all the women they have loved before have died.
Grant is still grieving the loss of his partner from 5 years when Laney arrives and turns his world upside down, but he knows she’s keeping secrets.

The found family in this was AMAZING! I absolutely loved Hadleys character, I loved Lark & Lily -Lincoln’s kids 🥹 I loved the romance in this, and I loved watching Grants character development!

Also he literally has the dirtiest mouth it was making me blushhhhh (the spice in this is so good)

The setting was amazing, I loved the aspect of the bourbon it added something new to just have a ranch in a small town and all of it was perfect!

I just wish there was a bit more to do with the WITSEC plot to balance the story out and I definitely would’ve given this 5 stars!

A wild and twisty ride

 Candace Sizemore  :

It was a little slow to start and took a good 5ish chapters for me to really get into it. While reading I felt like I could picture the scenes so well playing out and would really never see the twists coming. The last chapter though wha a wild ride. It was definitely a good read and would recommend to others.

A Game Changer

Very comprehensive book on saving seeds. It starts with some botany lessons and then separates seeds into veg, herb and flower so you can search the specific seed you want to save and it gives the how-to. It also shares how to plant the seed later.  Andrea Doherty    :

This book was a game-changer for me! It's written in a fun, personable, relatable manner, and packs in a ton of tips for setting up a kitchen, eating in a life-affirming way, and making it simple and easy to create good meals on the daily. It's also gorgeous--lots of great, quality pics of the food and the authors.
