Welcome to the Stockton Township Public Library
From a small room above a clothing store to the modern community cornerstone, the Stockton Township Public Library has been the heart of our town for over 120 years.
Our story began in 1903 in the W.E. White Building. Located above Hermann’s Clothing Store (the space many of you know today as Copperleaf Cafe), the library was managed by our very first librarian, Rose Clancy.
By 1925, the library had outgrown its original home and moved to the second floor of the Stockton Town Hall. It quickly became a local staple; newspaper archives from the era report that nearly 1,500 people visited annually—roughly half the town’s population at the time!
As our collection expanded, so did our need for a dedicated space. In 1966, the library purchased the former E.UB. Church property at 140 W Benton St. Five years of planning and construction followed, culminating in the grand opening of our current facility in 1971.
While our walls hold plenty of history, we are constantly evolving to meet the needs of a digital age.
Whether you want to explore the Atwood Community Room, research your family tree, or just find your next favorite read, our doors are open.
Come for the history, stay for the community. Check out our programs and events to see what’s happening this month—there truly is something for everyone!
