What We Read Last month
In April we reviewed both these books and the club unanimously agreed they are keepers!
Each book offered great recipes. The Real Irish Food had good recipes with culinary history of Ireland.
The Betty Crocker Lost Recipes offered "Our Moms" tried and true recipes with some history and tips on the recipe.
We not only enjoyed tasting the recipes but had a fun time sharing tips and cooking stories.
All the recipes were delicious and fairly easy to make. The ingredients were easily sourced as well. The book club also shared several tips and cooking ideas.
Two of our favorites were:
You can easily freeze buttermilk in the original container and the powdered buttermilk tastes just like the fresh-Who Knew!!
Also did you know you can freeze single portion whip cream or cool whip? Simply take a frozen cookie sheet and drop dollops of whip cream or cool whip and freeze, once frozen you can then drop these frozen single servings into baggies or freezer containers to use when you need them!

In March our group came together to review 2 Cookbooks:
Indulge by Valerie Bertinelli
TOH Simple & Delicious Cookbook
What a great time we had!
Some members made recipes from both books to share.
They were very good with some adjustments.
We gave Indulge overall 4 Star rating and the TOH Simple also received a 4 Star rating.
While everyone agreed the recipes from both books tasted very good, the TOH lacked some instruction details that would have been helpful however it did not effect the taste of the recipe. The Indulge book had very clear instructions but one patron thought the Sausage and Olive bites were a bit dry however the group did enjoy the flavor and suggested maybe using the butcher counter Italian sausage as it might have more fat to moisten the bites and also maybe to use some of the olive juice to flavor the mix.
The TOH Chocolate Orange pie was a hit but the group suggested not using store bought graham cracker pie crust as it lacked the taste to compliment the dual ice cream flavors.
Both cookbooks are recommended by our group and worthy of checking them out from our library.

Patrons brought the following recipes:
*In A Snap Bruschetta (TOH Cookbook)
*Chocolate Orange Pie - Frozen (TOH Cookbook)
*Sweet Potato Fries (Indulge Cookbook)
*Olive and Sausage Bites (Indulge Cookbook)
COOKS TIP: To soften a sweet potato for easier cutting place a peeled potato in the microwave for 30-45 seconds
All the recipes are available in the library and listed below in PDF form.
